Poul Henningsen was a pioneer of lighting design. He was one of the first to recognize the importance of the shaping of light, and in 1958, as a follow-up to his three-shade system from 1926, he designed the PH 5 pendant.

The PH 5 Pendant Light was designed and developed by the famous Danish designer Poul Henningsen in 1958, and this lamp is still a classic design lamp icon to this day. The design of the PH 5 Lamps were inspired by Louis Poulsen's unique pursuit of light, looking to improve the color reproduction characteristics of the light source in the PH 5, inserting small shades of red and blue into the lampshade design to complement the least sensitive part of the spectrum for the eye color - the red and blue areas - thus suppressing the light in the middle yellow-green area where the eye is most sensitive. Through Henningsen's shading system design, the light is softened and the space and people become more harmonious.
